Story Construction

- For this task I worked with Danielle and Grace.

Idea 1 (Danielle)

Suppose she stumbled across photos of her fella with another woman, she then decides that she must take bitter sweet revenge.
My film begins showing the love between this young couple, when the next morning he claims to be off to work. She kisses him goodbye and continues with the domestic chores. While empty the pockets of their clothing, she discovers this one photo of her lover along with a more beautiful and attractive woman, with a pedant neckless hidden in his blazer pocket. She then must decide whether she would ignore she found the photo or whether she should get her own back.
My lead character's goal is to get revenge on her cheating, love rat of a boyfriend. She'll do discrete tasks to torment him mentally.

Idea 2 (Grace)

The Leads Goal in my story is to discover if her Boyfriend is still alive or not.
Suppose she receives a letter saying he might be dead and she decides to try and find out if this is true because if she doesn't her baby won't have a father.
The film is about a women, who wants to find out if the letter she received about the possibility of her boyfriend being dead is actually telling the truth or if it is just a sick joke. She must discover if he really was killed in war or he is safe and coming home in time for christmas so that she can tell him she is pregnant and he can be a father to the baby.

Idea 3 (Me - The one we went with)

My main character's goal among the story is to decide whether or not she should get back into contact with her ex boyfriend who she's still in love with, as there's something she needs to tell him that should only come from her.

Suppose this happens, she must decide whether or not she puts herself through the pain of seeing him again.

My film is about Christmas 2014, a whole year later from when Holly and her boyfriend filled this season with magical memories last year. She stumbles across a page in her old diary where polaroids are scattered; polaroids of her and him. The more pictures she stares at, the more memories that come flooding back. These memories play on screen, and then the diary closes. Holly gets up, gets ready, rebuilds her confidence.

Class feedback

The male character has a terminal illness (the ex boyfriend)
He had previous illnesses that were minor and didn't tell her, so she thought he was cheating on her when really he was just going to doctors and hospital appointments so they broke up. He was weak and vulnerable and had no one so didn't save the relationship, he was confused, and she was stubborn.
She now has a new serious boyfriend.
But it's Christmas, and with Christmas come memories of her and her ex. She can't help wonder about how he is, so when she receives a christmas card from him her heart jumps in excitement. However, when she opens it her whole world turns upside down.
The christmas card reveals him having a terminal illness, the big C; cancer. She's in a dilemma of going to visit him or not. Does she now risk the trust of her new boyfriend? Does she risk feeling past attachments towards her ex? Or does she ignore what she read as though it isn't happening?

My new story idea

Genre: Romance.

Film Title: This Christmas.

My lead story goal is to keep the audience guessing at the beginning what Ameerah, the main character, is going to do about this heartbreaking Christmas card she receives from her ex boyfriend; the first person she ever fell in love with and shared everything with for four years. They've been split up for nine months, and during this time period Ameerah found herself confiding in a fellow work partner at Costa. This work partner called Noah won over Ameerah five months ago, and they are now in a serious relationship. But is this relationship strong enough to ensure Ameerah doesn't fall in love with her ex Bruno a second time?

Background history: Christmas season is the one season that causes Ameerah to reminisce over memories of Christmas 2013, where she spent this time with Noah Bruno filled with smiles that caused aching cheek bones and laughter that makes your stomach hurt. It's now Christmas 2014, and with Christmas comes memories of her and Bruno. Nine months ago, Ameerah thought that he was cheating on her. He'd sneak off from College some afternoons without a reason and cancel on plans that him and Ameerah would make to "help his mum out in the cafe". These strange dissappearing acts meant that Ameerah went to look for Bruno one evening in his mum's cafe, only to find out that she'd told his mum he was spending the night with Ameerah herself. When she confronted Bruno discretely, hinting he's been lieing he'd just make up more lies. Ameerah made assumptions that he was cheating, so when she accused him of it his jaw dropped and he froze, baffled as to how she could think that of him after their four year relationship. Bruno was actually experiencing an extreme health issue. He'd got the awful big C and was visiting the doctors and hospital to be tested and injected. He wasn't in the right state of mind to defend himself when Ameerah accused him of doing something that he'd never dream of doing. From this point onwards their relationship began to crumble until Ameerah would stop being there for him when that was the one thing he really needed. But he never told her, so was Ameerhah right to accuse him? She then ignored him for the next week until deciding it was time to end their relationship as Bruno wouldn't tell her anything and she felt she could no longer trust him if he wasn't being honest.

Until this day, 15th December, Ameerah and Bruno have not spoken for nine months, until now. He sends her a Christmas card with a message that has no relation to a "Merry Christmas" wish. Bruno tells her. After all this time, he tells her now that his cancer has become terminal, through a card. It was a pretty big christmas card with a lot of words and explanations that cause Ameerah's heart to drop. He tells her now when she has a new boyfriend. Will Ameerah now be there for Bruno, bearing in mind she still thinks that he was cheating? Does Bruno have enough time to explain everything to the one girl that he's ever truly loved? Will Ameerah risk losing her current boyfriend Noah when she now knows that she'll eventually lose Bruno anyway? Or will she spend whatever time she has left with him making this Christmas their best one yet?
